KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tremors believed triggered by a strong earthquake in southern Sumatra, Indonesia, were strongly felt here on Wednesday.
People can be seen evacuated some high buildings at Kuala Lumpur city center, especially those old buildings where strong shaking were felt around 6:20 p.m., but life in the city remained normal as usual.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the tremor was caused by a powerful earthquake measuring 7.6 degrees on the Richter scale, hitting southern Sumatra at about 6:17 p.m.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said it has not issued a tsunami warning for Malaysia as it believed that the waves would not reach the country's shores.
