ISLAMABAD, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Twelve militants surrendered to security forces and four others were arrested during the ongoing search and clearance operations in northwest Pakistan in the last 24 hours, an army press release said Wednesday.
Security forces continue operations in Swat and Malakand, North West Frontier Province. Twelve militants voluntarily surrendered to security forces at Bar Shaur, Runial Chuprial and Mingora, and four others were arrested in the restive area, according to the Inter Services Public Relations.
Meanwhile, number of check-posts is being reduced as law and order situation has improved in Mingora, the main city in Swat, local TV channel GEO News reported. The forces have decided to end the check-posts in Mingora and adjoining area after restoration of peace in Swat.
However, reconstruction of hotel industry, schools and bridges has yet not been started in Swat after the operation against militants.
About 1,700 militants have been killed since Pakistani security forces launched the military operation against Taliban militants late April after militants in early April entered the Buner district from the neighboring Swat district and refused to vacate the area despite their pledge to do so.
