Church collapse kills 23 in E Nepal

    KATHMANDU, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- A church collapsed in Dharan, Sunsari district in eastern Nepal killing 23 and injuring 65 others, state-run Nepal Television reported Wednesday morning.

    According to the TV report, at least four children are among those killed when the church at Victoria Chowk, some 220 km east of Kathmandu, collapsed Tuesday night.

    Police said the collapsed structure was three-storied with a tin roof. The cause of the collapse is not known yet.

    Avenues Television said all those dead have been identified.

    The injured are being treated at BP Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.

    According to the report, more than 1,800 (many from neighboring India) were attending the prayers when the incident happened.

    The prayers had started on Monday. The casualty was high, TV channels said, because the incident occurred at night.
