PORLAMAR, Venezuela, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) - Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo said on Saturday that Africa is in the processes of recovering its genuine independence, like South America.
Lugo said this at the second Africa-South America (ASA) Summit held in Margarita Island in the Venezuelan state of Nueva Esparta.
Lugo said that this summit is the ideal opportunity to strengthen South America's solidarity ties with Africa.
"As we all know, Africa and Latin America always have been victims of the colonization, but at these moments we are remaking our second independence in South America," Lugo added.
More than 20 heads of state and government from both regions will discuss issues like health, energy, science, technology, tourism and agriculture during the two-day summit.
The leader will also discuss global problems, which can counteract the current finance crisis with the South-South cooperation.
