LONDON, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -Ed Miliband, the British Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, said on Saturday that he will "fight for the most ambitious deal" in the UN conference of climate change in Copenhagen this December.
The Secretary told Xinhua that he is optimistic about the meeting "because there is a lot of political will for an agreement", and "we need to turn that political will into a real agreement".
But he also admitted that there would be a long way to go and a lot of hard work to do. So he is going to be personally present in Copenhagen to "fight for the most ambitious deal that we can get".
When asked about targets, Miliband restated Britain's commitment of reducing carbon emissions by 34 percent by 2020, and "we would do more as part of a global deal at Copenhagen."
He said climate change is a serious issue that needs every one to be involved, and called all the countries to take action, so our future generations would not look back and blame us.
The Secretary talked when backing up a climate change campaign Saturday in London, which is named "One Giant Leap" led by climate change NGO Sandbag and sporting group Parkour Generations.
The campaign is taking place in some 30 countries all over the world on the same day, in which people would do free-running and sign up in appeal for cutting carbon emissions. The organizers said they would present the signatures to the UN Copenhagen meeting.
Miliband praised the campaign for "saying we need a giant leap forward at Copenhagen at the climate change talks."
