Hong Kong reports two more fatal cases of A/H1N1 flu

    HONG KONG, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong reported Wednesday another two fatal case of Influenza A/H1N1, bringing to 18th the total number of fatal cases of the special flu in the city.

    The two patients suffering from Influenza A/H1N1 died in two local hospitals, respectively, on Wednesday, says a statement from the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong.

    The patient at The United Christian Hospital is a 63-year-old woman with lung cancer. She developed flu symptoms on Sept. 17 and was admitted to the hospital the next day. Influenza A/H1N1 was confirmed on the same day and patient was prescribed with Tamiflu and antibiotics.

    The clinical condition of the patient continued to deteriorate and she succumbed at 5:25 a.m. on Wednesday.

    Another patient is a 34-year-old man with a history of Ankylosing Spondylitis who developed flu symptoms on Sept. 18. He was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on the same day.

    Influenza A/H1N1 was confirmed on Sept. 20. He was prescribed with Tamiflu, Relenza and antibiotics and was on ventilation support. His condition continued to deteriorate and he succumbed at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.

    Both cases were reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and Center for Health Protection, and will also be referred to the Coroner for follow up.
