ISTANBUL, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The first Turkish-made satellite was launched from a base in India Wednesday, reported the semi-official Anatolia news agency.

"ITUpSAT1" was sent to space inside a PSLV C-14 rocket by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) early on Wednesday, said the report.

The cube-shaped satellite, which will orbit the earth at an altitude of 720 km, has the capacity to take continental photos.

The satellite was developed by scientists at Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, according to the report.
