El Salvador president sets out for official visit to UN

    MEXICO CITY, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- El Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes will leave for the United States later on Monday for an official visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York.

    David Rivas, the presidency's communications chief, said Funes will address the UN general assembly on Wednesday, meet with investors in New York, and then meet with the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), Luis Moreno, among other officials.

    He will also visit international financial institutions in Washington.

    In mid-August, Funes said El Salvador was seeking as much as 1.55 billion U.S. dollars in funding from international financial institutions, including the IADB, the World Bank, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the International Monetary Fund.
