TEHRAN, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is
heading for New York on Tuesday to attend the UN General Assembly, a
presidential office official said on Monday.
The official Mohammad-Jafar Mohammadzadeh said that "according to the
schedule, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will leave for New York on Tuesday to
attend the 64th UN General Assembly," the official IRNA news agency reported.
"The most important message of the president in this trip is peace and
friendship for all the nations," Mohammadzadeh told IRNA.
Ahmadinejad will address the 64th summit meeting of the UN General
Assembly.
Reportedly, the general debates session of the heads of world states will
start on Wednesday and last until Saturday, during which diverse issues of
global concerns will be debated.
Ahmadinejad has regularly attended the UN summit since he was elected
president in 2005. It will be his first visit to a Western country since Iran's
June 12 presidential election, which was officially declared a landslide victory
for him.
Ahmadinejad has already invited the U.S. President Barak Obama for an open
debate on the major global issues at the UN summit meeting sessions, for which
he has not received any response yet.
