BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- UK experts warned that the future burden of Alzheimer's and other types of dementia has been underestimated, according to media reports Monday.

It is suggested in a report from King's College London that there will be 115 million dementia sufferers by 2050, which is 10% more than previous figures published in 2005.

The report also estimates that 35 million people worldwide will suffer from dementia by next year and the number is set to almost double every 20 years.

Caring for people with dementia is not just a social issue, but an economic one, for it places a growing burden on the working population and health systems.

A spokesman of the Alzheimer's Society said the data shows the scale of the challenge and the worldwide problem needs a response from every nation.
