LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- A 13-year-old boy from Los Angeles
suburbs who was accused of starting the Morris Dam Fire was charged Friday in
juvenile court with two felony counts, prosecutors said.
The juvenile, whose name is being withheld because of his age, is set to be
arraigned on Nov. 17 in Pomona Juvenile Court on one felony count of arson of a
forest and another count of recklessly causing a fire to a forest or structure.
The fire was the first to start in Angeles National Forest Park in northeastern
Los Angeles later last month and razed nearly 3000 acres (1,214 hectares) of
land.
Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives from the arson-explosives unit,
along with investigators from the U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles County
Fire Department investigated the blaze and determined it was arson, authorities
said.
The fire started Aug. 25, the same day as the 160,000-plus-acre(64759
hectare) Station Fire, the biggest in the county's modern history. Californian
state authorities is offering a 100,000-dollar reward for information leading to
an arrest and conviction while Los Angeles County has announced a 50,000-dollar
reward.
