MEXICO CITY, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Mexican federal police seized3.5 million cigarettes in a customs warehouse in Ensenada, a port town in the northern state of Baja California, the country's Attorney General's Office (PGR) said on Wednesday.
The cigarettes, which bore counterfeit Marlboro logos, were taken to a cement plant in Ensenada's Carlos Pacheco neighborhood, for incineration in the presence of customs officials and officials from the PGR's internal control service.
Officials had begun to investigate the fake cigarettes after containers carrying 17,500 packets of cigarettes were placed in customs storage for a routine inspection and the shipment's owners did not step forward to complete the formalities.
