ANKARA, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Thursday that Turkey and Romania will promote economic cooperation in the Black Sea region.

The two countries were determined to turn the Black Sea region into one of the most powerful and developed economic basins in the world, Davutoglu said.

Speaking at a joint press conference following official talks with his Romanian counterpart Cristian Diaconescu in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Davutoglu said Turkey and Romania are two important countries in Black Sea region, adding that both countries have made efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz and State Minister Zafer Caglayan would pay visits to Romania in September and October in an effort to improve the bilateral economic and political relations, according to Davutoglu.

He said that ways to improve the economic cooperation in the Black Sea region were on the agenda of his talks with Diaconescu.

For his part, Diaconescu said that Turkey was the biggest commercial partner of Romania after the European Union (EU).

Emphasizing his country's support to Turkey's EU bid, Diaconescu said Turkey was an important country both for the Black Sea and Caucasus regions.

The peace process in the Middle East, Afghanistan-Pakistan relations and Iraq issue were also discussed during their talks, Diaconescu said.
