TEGUCIGALPA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Spanish judge Baltazar Garzon said on
Tuesday that he does not agree with anything that appears to be a rupture in
constitutional order caused by the June 28 coup in Honduras.
Garzon, who arrived here on Sunday night to investigate the human rights
situation in Honduras after the coup, is a judge currently seated on the
Criminal Court of Spain.
In 1998, he issued an international warrant for the arrest of former
Chilean President Augusto Pinochet for alleged torture and killing of Spanish
citizens during his tenure.
"At this point of the history, it is an absolute anachronism to find a
violent solution to issues that can be solved through dialogue and understanding
in democracy", Garzon told a forum on human rights.
"That is the argument that makes me be against this coup", he added.
The Spanish judge said that it is a personal and moral obligation for him
to show support and solidarity with those people who suffer the violation of
human rights.
The forum was organized by the Center of Research and Promotion of Human
Rights and the Family Committee of Victims of Disappearance in Honduras.
