    TAIPEI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Morakot, the worst typhoon to hit Taiwan in 50 years, has claimed 376 lives, left 254 missing and 46 others injured, the island's disaster response authorities said Tuesday.

    Hsiaolin Village in Kaohsiung County alone had reported 239 confirmed deaths by 1 p.m. Tuesday.

    Kaohsiung County, the area worst hit by the Aug. 8 typhoon, has reported 308 deaths and 207 missing. There have been 28 deaths reported in Tainan with one injured. Pingtung County reported 23 deaths and 24 missing.
