BRASILIA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and
his Ecuadorian counterpart Fander Falconi said on Monday that the Union of South
American Nations (Unasur) Summit would be expanded.
A Unasur extraordinary session would be summoned to discuss regional
security issues such as the controversial Colombia-U.S. military agreement and
other military agreements with third countries.
During a press conference, visiting Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Falconi
said that his country would discuss all the issues proposed. "It is not about
accusing anyone, but the presidents to have a dialogue," he said.
Colombia has confirmed President Alvaro Uribe's attendance to the session.
Officials said Columbia would discuss agreements such as the Brazil-France
negotiation on purchasing nuclear submarines and helicopters.
"There was difference between buying equipment or training and the presence
of foreign soldiers within a country's territory, despite the aim to combat drug
trafficking," Amorim said.
Amorim also said that the discussion on the Colombia bases might yield no
juridical guarantees to confine the U.S. troops only to combat the drug
trafficking inside Colombia.
The Unasur Summit would be hosted on Aug. 28 in Bariloche,
Argentina.
