WELLINGTON, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from influenza A/H1N1 related cases in New Caledonia has risen to five, the Oceania Flash reported on Monday.
Health officials said the latest two cases succumbed to pneumonia brought on by the H1N1 virus. Oceania Flash reported that neither of the two has pre-existing health conditions that put them at greater risk from the disease.
New Caledonia last week recorded its first influenza A/H1N1 death.
Philippe Dunoyer, a government health official, said there are no plans to step up measures to contain the spread of the virus.
The French government has sent medical teams to both New Caledonia and French Polynesia to help control the outbreak of influenza A/H1N1.
