BAGHDAD, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Three Iraqi soldiers were killed and seven
people were wounded in separate attacks in Baghdad and Diyala Province on
Saturday, a police source said.
In Baghdad, unknown gunmen in their car opened fire in early morning on
Iraqi soldiers manning a checkpoint in Baghdad's northern district of Adhamiyah,
killing two soldiers and wounding another, the source told Xinhua on condition
of anonymity.
Also in the day, a roadside bomb explosion in the Saidiyah neighborhood in
southern Baghdad wounded two civilians, the source said.
In Diyala Province, a soldier was killed and four others were injured when
a roadside bomb hit the soldier patrol outside the provincial capital of Baquba,
some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, the source added.
The attacks came three days after a series of deadly bomb attacks that
killed 97 people and wounded 585 others in Baghdad, including twin truck
bombings outside government ministries.
Despite dramatic drop of violence in recent months, deadly attacks against
Iraqi security forces and civilians remain common in Baghdad.
