SAN JOSE, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Costa Rica has reported 1,018 A/H1N1 influenza cases, including 31 death cases, the Costa Rican Health Ministry reported on Friday.

Health authorities reported 36 new cases this week, mounting the number of confirmed cases to 1,018, while the death cases remained the same.

People under 30 are still the most affected. However, ratio of the young patients has lowered and now they make up 57 percent of the total.

The capital San Jose has the most flu cases, and more than 75 percent of the patients are from the central zone of the country.

Obesity might be a major cause of the flu deaths in Costa Rica, since 42.9 percent of the cases suffered from it.
