KABUL, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- A suicide bomber blew himself up in front of a
checkpoint in Uruzgan province south of Afghanistan Tuesday morning killing five
persons including three soldiers, police said.
"A man, strapped explosive device to his body, blew himself up in front of
an army checkpoint on the road connecting provincial capital Trinkot to Chora
district when the soldiers were checking vehicles killing three soldiers and two
civilians," Juma Gul Hemat the police chief of Uruzgan told Xinhua.
Two soldiers and three more civilians were injured in the blast, he added.
No groups or individuals have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban fighters who have vowed to interrupt the presidential and
provincial councils' election scheduled for Aug. 20 have intensified their
anti-government activities.
