HELSINKI, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Finland's National
Agency for Medicines approved human tests of A/H1N1 flu vaccine in the country
on Monday.
Commissioned by a French drug maker, the Vaccine
Research Center of Tampere University, will start testing its vaccine on 400-450
children ages six months to 17 years this week. The inoculations will be
conducted by 15 regional vaccination clinics around the country.
The same vaccine will also be tested on adults in
France.
Although the vaccine has only been in development for
a few months, the head of the Vaccine Research Center of Tampere University does
not see any significant risk in these tests.
As the A/H1N1 flu is estimated to spread nationwide
in Finland this autumn, the Finnish government is preparing for a mass
vaccination of its citizens and has ordered 10 million doses of A/H1N1 influenza
vaccine. This means that there will be two doses of vaccination available for
nearly each Finn.
According to the Finnish Social Affairs and Health
Ministry, the first batch of vaccines is due to arrive in Finland in September.
