ULAN BATOR, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia and Qatar will hold a joint military exercise in October, 2009 in Mongolia, the Mongolian government's press office said on Wednesday.

More than 200 soldiers from Mongolia and Qatar, as well as observers from the United States and the Republic of Korea, will join the exercise.

At the first stage of the upcoming event, instructors of Qatar's armed forces will offer theoretical training, while at the second stage, tactical shooting, field march and training of special forces will be conducted.

The joint military exercise will contribute to strengthening and broadening the mutual trust and cooperation between the armed forces of Mongolia and Qatar. The Mongolian side also hopes that Qatar will continue to help with capacity building of its armed forces, said the press office.

Under an agreement on military cooperation signed by the two countries in 2007, Qatar will help Mongolia build the "Tavan Tolgoi" military training center in the west of Ulan Bator and both sides will cooperate in military personnel training.
