YANGON, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar specialists have successfully
transplanted an artificial aorta into a patient with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
at a hospital in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw, the official newspaper New
Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.
The surgical operation was carried out on a male patient, U Than Kyaw, 68,
on July 30 by seven Myanmar specialists, led by Cardiologist Dr. Win Win Kyaw,
on complaint of a pain in the patient's abdomen, the report said..
After the successful operation, the patient was discharged from hospital
Wednesday, the report added.
In August 2004, Myanmar also successfully carried out a liver transplant
operation for the first time.
A donated 39 year-old female liver was transplanted into a male patient
named Ko Khin Zaw Htet, 35, in the New Yangon General Hospital with the
patient's health condition recovering and improving 30 hours after the
operation, then report said.
The over-13-hour operation, carried out by a team of surgeons led by Dr
Norman Hla, was claimed by Myanmar as the first in Southeast Asia.
During the past two decades, Myanmar had also successfully performed
operations on renal transplant, crushed arm replanting and separating a
conjoined twin.
