BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Argentine
health authorities reported on Wednesday a total of 386 A/H1N1 influenza deaths
in the country, based on the provincial health departments' reports.
The updated figure made the country become the second
largest number of fatalities from the A/H1N1 virus in the world, just after the
United States, which till Aug. 7 had reported 436 deaths.
The provincial authorities from Rio Negro and San
Juan confirmed on Wednesday seven and one deaths respectively.
In Rio Negro, which is in the south of the country,
the death toll rose by 17.
The city with the largest number of infections in Rio
Negro is San Carlos de Bariloche, where an extraordinary summit of the Union of
South American Nations will be held.
Meanwhile in San Juan, western Argentina, the death
toll rose by three.
According to provincial statistics, the districts
with the largest number of deaths from A/H1N1 flu are Buenos Aires with 135,
Santa Fe 86, Cordoba 26, Rio Negro 17 and Neuquen 11.
In the 24 provinces of Argentina, Catamarca, La Rioja
and Tierra del Fuego have not reported deaths to the moment.
