Huge earthquake hits Indian Ocean: USGS

    WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- A huge 7.6-magnitude earthquake has occurred in the Indian Ocean, triggering a tsunami alert across large sections of the Ocean, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported on Monday.

    According to the USGS, the quake struck around 260 kilometers (160 miles) north of Port Blair, the main town in India's Andaman Islands, and was around 33.1 kilometers (20.6 miles) deep.

    The USGS said a tsunami watch had been issued for India, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh.
