Indonesian police evacuate body of regional JI leader Top

    JAKARTA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian police evacuated the body of key figure of regional terrorist militant of Jemaah Islamiayah (JI) Noordin Mohammad Top on Saturday after he was shot dead in a besiege since Friday afternoon in Central Java, local TVOne reported.

    The police took the body from the house in Temanggung district and brought it to an ambulance and planned to be moved to Jakarta.

    A police officer at the scene has confirmed the body as Top's.

    He reportedly had been in the house for two days after visiting a fellow in Bekasi town, in outskirt Jakarta, where police conducted a raid and killed two terrorist suspects.

    Top, 41, is the coordinator of Southeast Asia militant network of Jemaah Islamiah who is believed to have links with the recent suicide bombings in two super-tight security luxurious hotel in Jakarta, killing 9 people and wounding 55 others.

    He has been the police most wanted man as he has been blamed for playing key roles in a series of major deadly explosions in the southeast Asia largest economy, including the churches explosion in 2000, Bali bombings in 2002 and 2005, JW Marriot Hotel blasts in 2003 and Australian embassy bombings in 2004, killing more than more than 260 people.
