BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Xinhua News Agency
magazine is to join with northeast China's Liaoning TV to air news commentary
across China via a satellite cable network.
The commentary program will be broadcast on Liaoning
TV once a week to cable audiences in China. It will focus on the latest domestic
and international news events with opinions provided by Xinhua magazine, Outlook
Weekly.
President of Xinhua News Agency Li Congjun,
Editor-in-chief He Ping and Vice President Lu Wei attended a ceremony on Friday
at Xinhua to sign a contract with Zhang Jiang, a member of the standing
committee of the Liaoning Province's Party committee.
Since the 1970s Xinhua, the biggest news publication
group in China, has published a series of national newspapers and magazines. The
cooperative venture with Liaoning TV is a further attempt to promote Xinhua's
authoritative viewpoint via multimedia outlets.
In a previous venture targeting booming Internet
media, Xinhua joined with China's largest social networking service provider,
www.kaixin001.com, to broadcast Xinhua's TV programs on its website.
Xinhua News Agency's department of video and audio
programs also signed a cooperation memo with APT Satellite Holding Ltd., a
listed company in Hong Kong and New York which provides transponder utilization
service and satellite TV broadcasting service to operators.
According to the cooperation memo, Xinhua will air
its TV programs to global media customers and audience through the satellites
operated by the APT.
Xinhua's President Li Congjun said one of the
agency's important mission is to enhance its global broadcasting capability and
participate in competitiveness of international media, noting that the
cooperation with the APT will be a significant step toward the objective.
With the excellent platform and technical support by
the APT as well as substantial TV programs provided by Xinhua, the cooperation
will have a bright future, Li said.
