BAGHDAD, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and 11 wounded in two
bomb attacks which targeted Iraqi police in south of Baghdad, a well-informed
police source said Wednesday.
A roadside bomb struck a police patrol in Baghdad's southern neighborhood
of Doura late on Tuesday night, destroying two police vehicles and killing four
police officers and a policeman aboard, the source told Xinhua on condition of
anonymity.
Five policemen and three civilians were also wounded by the powerful blast,
the source said.
Iraqi security forces immediately sealed off the scene while ambulances
evacuated the victims to Baghdad hospitals, the source added.
Separately, a policeman and two of his children were wounded when a bomb
planted in his car went off Wednesday morning at the town of Iskandriyah, some
50 km south of Baghdad, the source said.
Sporadic attacks continue in Iraqi cities despite the U.S. and Iraqi
officials announced a relative lull in violence during the past
months.
