WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday urged Iran to provide information about three missing Americans, who were reportedly arrested by Iran forces at the Iran-Iraq border region.

Speaking to reporters here, Clinton asked Iran to give whereabouts of the three Americans and "return them as quickly as possible."

Three American tourists, who visited Ahmed Awa area at the town of Halabja in the province of Sulaimaniyah, were arrested by Iranian forces after they crossed the border with Kurdistan region to Iran due to their little knowledge about the area, a Kurdish security official said in a statement on Saturday.

"The Americans are, Shaun Gabriel Maxwell, Shane Bower and Sara Short. Another American called Joshua Steel was with them, but he remained in Ahmed Awa resort," the statement said.

The United States has asked Switzerland, which represents U.S. interests in Iran, to confirm reports that three American nationals were arrested at the Iran-Iraq border region, the State Department said.
