BEIJING, Aug. 2 -- High-emission vehicles would
be banned from entering the area encircled by middle ring road in Shanghai since
Saturday, according to Shanghai Municipal Government.
The high-emission vehicles refer to those produced
before China's issuance of phase one emission standard for motor vehicles, which
is equal to Euro I Emission Standard.
Some 200,000 vehicles in Shanghai, with high exhaust
emission, heavy emission concentration and low emission stability, will be
affected.
Shanghai Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau
and Public Security Department have laid out implementation measures, specifying
restriction areas, vehicles and application procedure for green pass.
As is monitored, the vehicle exhaust emission has
accounted for 60 percent of the pollution in central areas of Shanghai.
