YINCHUAN, China, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- China completed
the three-game Sino-Australian Basketball Challenge on Saturday with a 92-73 win
over the team of Australian All-Star.
In front of 4,000 fans at Yinchuan gymnasium, China,
who will take part in the Asian Men's Basketball Championships in Tianjin next
week, was led by five players scoring double digits, with Wang Zhizhi 15 points,
Yi Jianlian and Wang Shipeng 14 apiece, Zhang Qinpeng 11 and Li Xiaoxu 10.
China had ever trailed 11 points, 16-27 in the second
quarter and narrowed the gap to 40-41 into the second half.
Zhang Qingpeng's three-pointer, however, put the host
on the lead 49-48.Injured Zhu Fangyu, who was a starter of the Chinese men's
Olympic team, made his debut in two months and poured China's first six points
in that span of the period.
But it was not enough for China until Hu Xuefeng
finished the third quarter with a three-pointer, gifting China 66-57 lead after
a 14-2 run.
"We defended well , and improved our accuracy in the
second half," Chinese coach Guo Shipiang said.
"We scored very bad, only 34 percent and that was
impossible to win a game," said Andrew Gates, the Australian coach. "China is
confindence after winning a series of warm-ups before the Asian Championships.
They are very strong in Asia."
China outshot Australia 45 percent to 34 and
rebounded 35 to Australia's 28.
