MADRID, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini said he was happy with the progress his side was making in its pre-season preparations.

Pellegrini was speaking early on Wednesday morning after Madrid beat Liga de Quito 4-2 to earn a place in the semifinals of the Peace cup.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, his first in a Madrid shirt, Esteban Granero, Alvaro Negredo and Christoph Metzelder gave Madrid the win in a performance that was much better than the one produced in the 1-1 draw against Al-Ittihad 48 hours earlier.

"We have a month and a left of preparation before the season begins and we are still not going to see the team in any sort of defined system of play yet," explained Pellegrini on Real Madrid.com

"I am not going much importance to the result, but we are improving and today we could see progress in various aspects."

"The best thing is that we looked secure all game. The goals Quito scored both came from set pieces and we still have not worked on that and we still have not worked on our lack of sharpness in the final meters."

"The players all know my opinion," he said.
