BEIJING, July 29 -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan called for strengthened Sino-U.S. cooperation and claimed stimulating economic growth would be their top priority.

He made the remarks at the China-U. S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue on Tuesday.

Wang said both Chinese and American economies were improving on a solid basis. China hoped that the United States step up in restoring its financial market, realize economic recovery as soon as possible and continue pulling up the world economic growth.

China and the United States should enhance cooperation and exchanges, improve micro-economy policies in time and push the economic development in a stable yet healthy manner, Wang said.

In terms of economic development mode, Wang said the Chinese government should focus on expanding domestic demand, especially consumers' demand, deepening the reform and opening-up drive, speeding up economic restructuring, safeguarding and improving the people's life, and balancing the development speed, structure, quality and benefits. How China worked to tackle the global financial crisis showed China's capability to pull up the economic growth by increasing domestic demand.

Wang stressed that changing the economic development mode was not easy for both countries, and China and the United States should deepen cooperation in this regard.

Wang also urged the international community to work together to increase the voice and representation of the emerging and developing economies, especially the underdeveloped economies.
