KABUL, July 28 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bombing against police left two
civilians dead and injured four others in the relatively peaceful northern
province of Tahar, provincial police chief said on Tuesday.
"A roadside bombing against vehicle of Ghulam Mohammad, police chief of
Warsaj district, killed two civilians and injured four others Monday evening,"
Ziahuddin Mahmoodi told Xinhua.
He also added that the Ghulam Mohammad and his personnel have escaped
safely from the incident while the bombing harmed civilians who were passing the
scene.
Meantime, Zabihullah Mujahid, who claimed to speak for Taliban fighters,
told media via cell phone from undisclosed location that the outfit carried out
the explosion leaving six police dead and wounded.
Taliban militants, mostly active in their traditional hotbed southern
Afghanistan, have been attempting to increase influence in northern peaceful
provinces, as a joint operation of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and
some 300 German soldiers have been launched in neighboring Kunduz province to
root out militants.
