HONG KONG, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Five high school
students have won a gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the 50th
International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Germany, scoring the best results
for the Hong Kong team since 2006.
The competitors were selected to represent Hong Kong
for their outstanding performance in the IMO Preliminary Selection Contest held
last year.
Gold medallist Ching Tak-wing, a Secondary Five
student of Queen's College won a silver medal in the China Mathematical Olympiad
2009 in January.
The two silver medallists are Kenneth Hung of
Diocesan Boys' School and Lam Cho-ho of STFA Lee Shau Kee College. The bronze
medallists are La Salle College's Chung Ping-ngai and STFA Leung Kau Kui
College's Ng Ngai-fung.
The Olympiad was held during July 10 to 22 in
Bremen.
