BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Well known British
toy brands, including Airfix, Corgi, Hornby and Scalextric will soon be carrying
the logo of the London 2012 Olympics.
Under a three-year license, Hornby is developing a
number of special products including models of London taxis and buses under the
brand name Corgi, the firm which it bought last year for 8.3 million pounds
(13.6 million U.S. dollars).
Airfix, the model manufacturer also owned by Hornby,
will be issuing kits of venues, including the Olympic Stadium. A number of
Olympic related products are also set to be released under Hornby's Scalextric
brand name including, it is said, a velodrome.
Frank Martin, Hornby chief executive, said it was a
"great honor" for the company to be producing the toys. Shares of Hornby, which
have risen by 54 percent since April this year, rose 3.4 percent to 104 pence
(1.70 dollars) on the news.
