MADRID, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid has reached
an agreement with the Portugal's Benfica for the sale of midfielder Javi Garcia.
Garcia abandoned Real Madrid's training camp in
Ireland on Tuesday morning to fly to Lisbon where he will sign a five-year
contract.
The 22-year-old will cost 3 million euros and is the
second Real player to sign for Benfica this summer after Javier Saviola signed
for a reported 5 million euros in June.
Garcia, a former Spain's under-21 international, is a
product of the Real Madrid youth system. He spent the 2007-2008 season on loan
at Osasuna, but returned to Real Madrid for the 2008-2009 campaign, he was
unable to win a regular first team place.
He made only 15 Primera Liga appearances, starting
just 5 games and playing a total of 518 minutes.
