JAKARTA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- As many as 117 bird species in Indonesia are on the risk of extinction this year and the Forestry Ministry has prioritized 26 bird species that would be preserved, the Bisnis Indonesia daily quoted an official as saying on Friday.
"Out of the 26 species, six of them were published in stamps," said the ministry's Director General for Forest Preservation and Nature Conservation Darori.
According to the Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), out of the 117 species, 68 of them are categorized as vulnerable, 32 very vulnerable and 17 in critical condition.
Indonesia has more than 1,598 bird species which are mostly found in the eastern parts of the country. There are some 10,000 bird species in the world, the report said.
