JAKARTA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- A car exploded at a freeway gate of Muara Angke of North Jakarta on Friday, killing two people, local television reported.

The blast occurred following two major explosions in two luxurious hotels, the JW Marriot Hotel and the Ritz Carlton Hotel, in South Jakarta two hours earlier.

"We have information that an explosion occurred there. We are deploying our officials to the location. However, we are still not sure what the source of the explosion is," Vivi, an official at Jasa Marga, the freeway operator, told the private news portal detikcom.

The Traffic Director at the Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Condro Kirono confirmed that the explosion at freeway gate was not caused by a bomb.

"A pick-up was burnt after it had an electrical short circuit," he said as quoted by the Jakarta Post.com.

According to Condro, the back part of the car was burnt. The driver, whose identity was still unknown, was injured.

"It has nothing to do with the explosions at Mega Kuningan," he said, referring to the two major explosions in two luxurious hotels, the JW Marriott Hotel and the Ritz Carlton Hotel, in South Jakarta.

The freeway incident was occurred on 10:30 local time (0330 GMT).
