TOKYO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose 0.42 percent Friday morning ahead of a three-day weekend.

    The benchmark Nikkei-225 index gained 39.34 points, or 0.42 percent, from Thursday to 9,383.50.

    The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 3.71 points, or 0.43 percent, to 875.96.
