BEIJING, July 16 -- The Hong Kong Legislative Council agreed Tuesday to
allocate a new funding of 290 million HK dollars to fight against the pandemic
influenza A/H1N1.
It is learnt that the fund will be put into different departments of the
government for pandemic control and moderation.
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Chief Executive Donald Tsang has
called for the whole society to take measures against the pandemic, since Hong
Kong reported its first imported confirmed case of swine flu on May 1.
After the first local infected case was confirmed on June 11, the fight has
turned from disease control to moderation.
The total number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong has reached 1,389 by July
14. Up to now 11 patients are in hospital, 10 are stable while one is in serious
condition.
