BANGKOK, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 will seek cabinet approval to extend the enforcement of the emergency law in the southernmost provinces for another three months from July 19, the Bangkok Post reported on Monday.
The proposal is raised for discussion at a meeting of security units on Monday, chaired by army chief Gen Anupong Paojinda, at Sirindhorn military camp in a southernmost province of Pattani province, Col Prinya Chaidilok, Region 4 spokesman, was quoted as saying.
Although the government has a policy to enforce the Internal Security Act in the deep South, the ISOC Region 4 office has thought the emergency law is still necessary in the southernmost provinces.
Thailand's deep South comprises mainly the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwas, and some parts of Songkla province.
Over 3,500 people have been killed in daily violent attacks by the suspected separatists since January 2004.
