More A/H1N1 flu cases reported in Asia Pacific region

    HONG KONG, July 12 (Xinhua) -- A/H1N1 flu virus is still spreading in Asia Pacific region as more cases are reported in the region Sunday.

    Thailand has one more death related to A/H1N1 influenza virus infection, bringing the country' s death toll to 18, according to a local media report Sunday.

    The latest victim was a 19-year-old rubber farmer from Thung Yai district, southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, said Nopporn Chuenklin, head of the province public health office.

    Health officials were trying to find where and how the victim was infected since he had not been to Bangkok since the A/H1N1 flu outbreak. His family members and neighboring villagers were also being examined.

    As of Sunday morning, Thailand has confirmed 247 infection cases, bringing the country's cumulative total to 3,475.

    Indonesia recorded 12 new A/H1N1 cases, putting the total cases to 64, the Indonesian Health Ministry said in a statement.

    Director General of disease control and environmental health Prof. Dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama said in the statement that the new patients were aged from 8 to 40 years, and five of them had the history of travel to overseas, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey, Japan and New Zealand.

    Indonesia has been on alert on the disease since the severity of the threat from the virus on the third level. The World Health Organization has recently raised the alert level from five to six, which means the pandemic has occurred.

    Three more A/H1N1 flu cases have been confirmed in Bangladesh, raising the total number of the cases in the South Asian country to 21, a senior government official on Sunday.

    The patients are all at home now under appropriate treatment and also under supervision of health officials, the official said, adding that treatment in hospitals was unnecessary as all the patients had showed slight symptoms.

    In China's Hong Kong, the Department of Health said Sunday there had been 29 newly confirmed cases of Influenza A/H1N1 in the24 hours to 2:30 p.m..

    The new cases involve 18 males and 11 females, aged from 2 to 49 years, said the department.

    This brings to 1,265 the total number of the confirmed cases in Hong Kong.

    In China's Macao, two more confirmed cases of Influenza A/H1N1 were reported on Sunday, bringing the total number of such cases to 83.

    Both of the two newly confirmed cases were imported, and the patients were local residents, according to Macao's Health Bureau.

    According to the statistics from the Bureau, some 20 patients were still receiving medical treatment in local hospitals and their health condition remained stable.
