TEGUCIGALPA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of supporters of Honduras's ousted
President Manuel Zelaya on Thursday blocked a key highway in the south of the
capital Tegucigalpa.
Zelaya's supporters obstructed the road at the time Zelaya was meeting
post-coup leader Roberto Micheletti in Costa Rica to seek a solution to the
crisis in the country.
The protestors, mostly teachers and workers, cut traffic on the highway for
many hours demanding the immediate return of Zelaya.
They told local press that their action will continue till Zelaya returns
to power.
Meanwhile, Eulogio Chavez, leader of the Honduran Front of Teachers
Organizations, which has 48,000 members, said they support Zelaya and will not
return to schools in protest of the interim government.
Zelaya was seized in his bed by heavily armed troops on June 28 and forced
to board an aircraft to Costa Rica. He was ousted just hours before a planned
referendum asking citizens if they would support an assembly to review the
constitution alongside November's presidential elections.
Zelaya's opponents have interpreted the plan as Zelaya's ambition for
re-election. The Supreme Court had ruled the referendum
unconstitutional.
