Chinese Hong Kong grabs second swimming gold at Universiade 2009

    BELGRADE, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Hong Kong team claimed their second swimming gold at the 25th Universiade here on Thursday as Hannah Wilson triumphed in women's 100m butterfly.

    Wilson, who clinched the first Universiade swimming gold for Chinese Hong Kong on Tuesday's women's 100m freestyle, finished 58.24 seconds to win the 100m butterfly, which was a fresh Universiade record.

    "I am so excited," said the gold medallist. "I didn't expect I could win another gold."

    The Chinese team took a silver as Hong Wenwen finished second in the event by 59.12, while the bronze went to Kuroki Ayano of Japan.

    "It is a breakthrough," said Xu Fei, team leader of the Chinese swimming team. "We are doing better and better here."

    Apart from Hong's silver, the Chinese swimming team made another progress on Thursday. Xu Tianlongzi finished first in the women's 50m backstroke semifinal, and she broke the Universiade record by 28.40.

    Chad Latourette of the United States in the last lane to win the 1500m freestyle by 14:51.06.

    The American settled for a silver by 14:53.77, while the bronze went to Federico Colbertaldo of Italy by 15:03.90.

    Japan clinched its fifth gold today as Rie Kaneto triumphed in women's 200m breaststroke by 2:22.32, while Nada Higl of the host nation took the silver. The bronze went to Alena Alexeeva of Russia.

    In the men's 100m freestyle, Russian Sergey Fesikov claimed the title at 48.43, while the silver went to Cameron Prosser of Austria. Jason Dunford gifted Kenya a bronze.
