KABUL, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Anti-government insurgents fired two rockets on Faizabad, the capital of northeast Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, spokesman of provincial administration Abdul Marouf Rasikh said Thursday.

"One of the rockets, fired from unknown location, landed close to the office of election commission, but fortunately caused no loss of life and damage," Rasikh told Xinhua.

Rasikh put the attack on the enemies of peace a term used against Taliban insurgents fighting Afghan and international troops based in Afghanistan.

This is the first time that such attack rocks the relatively peaceful Badakhshan province.

Taliban militants whose regime was ousted in late 2008 have vowed to disrupt the second presidential election set for August 20 this year in the post-Taliban nation.
