U.S. actor Malkovich at Czech film festival

    PRAGUE, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Famous U.S. actor, director and producer John Malkovich on Wednesday arrived in the Czech Republic's western city of Karlovy Vary as one of the main guests of the 44th International Film Festival.

    Festival President Jiri Bartoska and executive director Krystof Mucha welcomed Malkovich outside the Pupp hotel in Karlovy Vary on Wednesday night.

    Within the tribute to John Malkovich section, the Karlovy Vary festival will present his directorial debut, The Dancer Upstairs, a political thriller, and the documentary Which Way Home, of which he was one of the producers.

    Czech audience knows Malkovich from many films, such as Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Of Mice and Men (1992), The Portrait of a Lady (1996) and Being John Malkovich (1999), written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Spike Jonze, in which he played himself.

    Besides, he scored success on Broadway in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman with Dustin Hoffman, and he also appeared in its TV version directed by Volker Schloendorff for which he was awarded Emmy in 1986.

    Malkovich, 55, will receive the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at the festival's closing ceremony on Saturday.
