Portugal announces creation of A/H1N1 flu vaccine reserve

    LISBON, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Portugual has decided to establish a reserve of A/H1N1 influenza vaccines for 30 percent of its population and is negotiating the buying of the vaccines with many pharmaceutics labs, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

    "There is the guarantee that we will have the necessary amount once the vaccine is produced," Minister Ana Jorge Jorge said, adding that the vaccines would be ready by the end of this November.

    The minister did not specify which group will have the priority on getting the vaccines once they are ready.

    In the latest development, Portugal has reported nine new cases ofA/H1N1 flu.

    The country has confirmed a total of 57 flu cases. Most of the patients have recovered after medical treatment, Jorge said.
