WASHINGTON, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Obama administration on Monday called on "all political and social actors" in Honduras to refrain from violence and to seek a peaceful solution to the current political crisis.

"We call upon the de facto regime and all actors in Honduras to refrain from all acts of violence and seek a peaceful, constitutional and lasting solution to the serious divisions in that country through dialogue," said State Department spokesman Ian Kelly.

"We deplore the use of force against demonstrators in Tegucigalpa in recent days," said the spokesman.

At least two people were killed and several others injured in a conflict between supporters of ousted President Manuel Zelaya and Honduran police forces on Sunday when a plane carrying Zelaya was blocked to land in Tegucigalpa, Honduras' capital.

After landing in El Salvador, Zelaya said he would try again to return to Honduras as soon as possible.

Zelaya was detained at home by soldiers and then was expelled from the country on June 28, shortly before a disputed referendum for constitutional change set to start. The constitutional change was expected to allow Zelaya to run for another term.

Hours after the Honduran interim government announced that it has no longer recognized the Charter of the Organization of American States (OAS), the organization on Saturday night unanimously decided to suspend Honduras' membership.

"We regret the necessity of this measure and look forward to the day when circumstances will allow the measure to be lifted and Honduras' participation resumed," Kelly explained to reporters about the OAS decision.

"It's important to note that under the provisions of the Inter-American Democratic Charter this suspension does not mean the end of OAS diplomatic initiatives to resolve the situation, nor does it relieve Honduras of its legal obligations to the organization, particularly full respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms," he said.

"We call on all OAS member states to act, individually and collectively, in a manner that protects and enhances the well being of the Honduran people by ensuring continued outreach to Honduran civil society, maintaining the effective flow of humanitarian assistance and rejecting the incitement and use of violence to effect political change," said the spokesman.

Honduras is to hold presidential elections in November.

The Honduran Supreme Court has authorized the removal from office of Zelaya and warned that the former president will be arrested if he returns to the country.

The coup in Honduras has been widely condemned by the international community. Some countries, including France, Italy and Spain, have recalled their ambassadors from Honduras.
