PARIS, July 6 (Xinhua) -- France and British stood firmly on the Iran crisis at a summit held Monday in French town Evian.

At a joint news conference with French President Nicolas Sarkzoy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown warned Iran that European Union would act together in response to Iran's detention of employees at the British embassy in Tehran, saying "the Iranian regime must be clear that if this action continues and we are forced to act, we will act together with our European partners."

Sarkozy said "our British friends" could "count on our total support and solidarity."

"The Iranian people deserve better than this from their leaders," he said.

An eighth local staff member of the British embassy in Tehran was released by Iran, and one remains in custody.

Sarkozy and Brown met in France Monday for a summit ahead of the G8 meeting this week in Italy, on climate change, the economy and tensions with Iran. ¡¡
